In their review of72 predominantly high-quality studies(involving 9,186 participants), Derryand colleagues evaluated the anal-gesic effect of ibuprofen, primarily in200-mg and 400-mg doses.For at least50 percent pain relief compared withplacebo, the NNT for ibuprofen 200 mg (2,690 participants) was 2.7(2.5 to 3.0);for ibuprofen 400 mg(6,475 participants) the NNT was 2.5(2.4 to 2.6).The proportion with atleast 50 percent pain relief was 46 per-cent with ibuprofen 200 mg and 54percent with ibuprofen 400 mg.
